Distance Education
The RTC has partnered with Ridley College to provide a selection of units that will allow students to complete at least one year by Distance Education. These units are fully accredited with the Australian College of Theology, and can be taken towards most of its diplomas and degrees. Some awards can be finished fully on-line (B.Min., Grad. Dip.), while others only allow for a partial completion by Distance Education (B.Th., M.Div.). Please check the ACT handbook for information on this point.
The Graduate Diploma of Divinity is particularly popular with professionals who wish to prepare for some church or evangelistic ministry. It is open to all who hold a first degree in a discipline other than theology or ministry, and typically is completed in four years part time study (one unit a semester). A further two years full time on campus study leads to a Master of Divinity degree.
The B.Min. and B.Th. units are popular with students who are thinking of going into some full time ministry. These can also be combined with university studies to lead to a Bachelor of Christian Studies, or even taken as electives counting towards a university degree (check this with your university).
Any of the on-line units can also be taken without accreditation. This is a much cheaper way to go for those who are not interested in gaining an academic award.
Under section 9.4 of the National Code of Practice for Registration Authorities and Providers of Education and Training to Overseas Students 2007, overseas students residing in Australia under a student visa must not undertake more than 25% of their total course by distance and/or online learning, or be allowed to study units exclusively in distance or online learning in any complusory study period.
